They say that if you ask an artist to put a face to evil, to horror, fear, to something deep and creepy, you can best judge by the work they produce what ultimately scares them. Not sure I believe this. I can tell you that when I announced my theme to photographers and artist, my return  imagery was interesting, and no I didn't go into this as some form of experiment. But I will admit to being intrigued in what I was sent. I'm doubtful that this is what haunts your dreams and fears, but I do feel when the term, Halloween is uttered we each have our perception of it. On the flip side I also received messages from a few artist that zero came to mind, concept wise, for the themed issue. I respect that. While it might seem easy, it is actually quite a task. Blood alone is a challenge. Too thick? Too thin? Not blue red enough, too bland red, too syrupy. Everyone has their recipe.

In my own case, I can't think of any horror movie that scares me. None. I have never went to sleep thinking something is going to get me. For me Halloween imagery is strictly theater. For the actual holiday my daughter and I celebrate it as an actual gathering. The end of our year. We pay it respect. What you see in the imagery I personally create is built upon entertainment. To date the things that scare me are reality based evil. The movie, In Cold Blood scared me as a child. Jack the Ripper creeps me out. These are actual events that happened in history. Of course, I have had strange things happen in my life. I've made the journey to Stull Kansas, and yes odd things happened there. I've also played with a Ouija board, and had nightmares for 3 to 4 days, filled with dead children coming to me to talk to their parents for them. Throw in a few ghost I have seen and or lived with, with one choking me in my sleep, or standing at the end of the bed smiling.......Anyway, as I said, my fears are reality based. The imagery I produce is, as I said, theater and nothing more.

On the following page, displayed as a magazine should, with side scroll from left to right as if you were reading an actual print magazine, is a collection of images sent to me from area photographers and at least one outside the US. It's a mix of evil and debauchery. I loved every piece sent. You could see how much fun went into the creation of fear. I would like to thank everyone involved. Last year SESSIONS Halloween Takeover didn't include a contributors gallery., This years takeover is very special and one that I hope doubles in contributions next year. Halloween horror is meant to be shared. So your sitting down and playing this game of share with me is deeply appreciated.

Our 2017, contributors: Shawnna Jones, Erika Pinkley, Erica Morrison, Jessica Jinx, Gustavo Arzate-Santos, Jody Jarvis, Artist Rissy Elisabeth, Shawn Wagner, Brian Scott, Al Pearce, and Edna the Ghost. I thank you all. A very talented collective of artist. I wish you all the very best this Halloween. If you are unable to dance around a fire naked, then find something close to it. Oh and take pictures of it for future issues. Much love to all.
